My check engine light is on. What should I do?
When the check engine light appears, this indicates that a problem has been identified by the vehicle's computer. The check engine light can be triggered by hundreds of codes, ranging from minor to severe problems. Regardless of the cause, you should get it checked as soon as possible before you break down or cause more damage. If your check engine light comes on, bring your car to Woodward Repair LLC where our experts can quickly diagnose and repair your car's problems.
Why is it important to change the oil and oil filter on schedule?
In addition to helping to cool an engine, clean motor oil cleans the inner parts of it and wears out engine parts much faster. As a result of clean motor oil, an engine's piston rings, and cylinder walls form enough of a seal to prevent power loss while increasing its operating efficiency. It is also important to change your oil filter when you change your oil. If an old oil filter is reused, it is possible to recirculate contaminants trapped in the old oil filter into the engine's moving parts.
Is synthetic oil different from conventional oil?
Yes. The contrast between synthetic and conventional motor oil can be seen in their origins. Conventional motor oil is taken from crude oil removed from the ground and treated at a refinery, while synthetic oils are created with synthesized materials. This approach offers more performance benefits, like reducing engine deposits, increasing viscosity at high temperatures, and providing better ease of flow for easier starting in cold weather.
How do you tell if your brakes are wearing out?
There are several indicators that your breaks may be wearing out. A spongy or low feeling brake pedal is usually an indication that air is present in the hydraulic system. Brake-warning lights can also indicate wear; Red brake-warning lights indicate an imbalance in the brake system, while amber lights indicate problems with the ABS. If you hear a continuous squealing or grinding sound, it is usually time to replace your brake pads or shoes.
How often should I change my belts & hoses?
At Woodward Repair LLC, we recommend replacing your vehicle's belts and hoses every 35,000 and 60,000 miles. Ideally, you should replace your vehicle's belts and hoses before summer when the temperatures are high.
What causes differential failure?
Using the wrong lubricant type or specialty lubricants can cause a differential to fail. Driving in high water can also be a culprit as water can enter through the vents or seals and cause rusting of the gears and bearings. Likewise, seized U-joints causing vibration can lead to differential failure. Vibrations caused by seized U-joints can also lead to differential failure.
Should I use premium gas in my vehicle?
Generally, high-octane fuel is not needed for most vehicles, but there are some high-performance cars that require it. It is harmful to use regular unleaded gas in a car that requires premium fuel since it reduces engine performance and can damage the car over time. Check your owner’s manual to find out if high-grade gas is required or recommended for your vehicle.
Does my vehicle's air conditioning system need to be recharged every year?
Cars do tend to lose some refrigerant over time, but this isn’t enough to warrant a recharge every year. There is no need to have your car AC recharged if it is working fine. You can tell if your car's AC system needs to be recharged by the warm air coming from the in-cabin vents. Our auto air conditioning experts at Woodward Repair LLC can charge up your car's air conditioning system in time for those hot summer months.
When should I replace my windshield wiper blades?
Most experts suggest you replace your wipers on a schedule but disagree on how often they should be changed. Before you can figure out how often your wipers should be changed, you need to know what influences how long they last. Beyond age itself, usage, environment, and exposure to UV light from the sun are all factors that can make your wiper blades wear out faster. If you hear squeaking or vibration noises or the wipers leave extreme streaking when used, it is time to get them replaced.
When should I balance my tires and wheels?
As tires lose their alignment, they may cause vibrations through the steering wheel that can become more pronounced as the vehicle speed increases. Besides affecting ride comfort, out-of-balance tires can also cause rapid tire or suspension wear. Woodward Repair LLC is the only shop in the Kasson, MN, area with an alignment rack, so if you feel vibrations while driving, bring your car in. We will realign your tires and get you back on the road in no time.
How often should I rotate my tires?
It is recommended that you should have your tires rotated every 5,000 miles to ensure even tread wear and extend their life. In addition to ensuring even tread wear, it is best to have Woodward Repair LLC take care of your tires as soon as possible if you notice any uneven wear or other problems with them. You should also have your tires professionally inspected every year for any signs of wear or damage.
